The club gained its nickname, Lere Lions, from local supporters. The club Director, Akorede Huthman is based in the UK and travels between Europe and Nigeria, which has enabled him to build strong connections with European clubs. This link to European clubs allows Gidi F.C to attract the best local talent. The club started off in the amateur league and has successfully been promoted three success years in a row to the second division.
